Mystical Month of July Seventh Month of the Year

During this global year of the 1 (2+0+1+7=10/ 1+0=1), all of us are experiencing new beginnings in every aspect of our lives – personally, socially and emotionally. You are all witnessing a new and sometimes challenging political, cultural and environmental atmosphere this year. No one can deny that!!

With these new beginnings, how does the number 7 month of July fit in? Perhaps a time of inner reflection. A time to look at yourself and love yourself. This can be a time to let go of the anxiety that the world is spinning around you and to go within. Discover something new about yourself. You could write a poem, or create a painting or walk in nature and find yourself enlightened while placing your hands on a tree. No seriously, I mean it. Hug a tree and ask it – “What message do you have for me?”

Guest Article: Daily Rituals by Elise Espat, KPJAYI/SYC Authorized 2

I have to floss my teeth each day. I feel weird if I don’t.

Every day our senses pick up tastes, smells, scenes, tactile experiences, conversations. We say words, we hear words, we witness. This is what our sense organs do, of course. Even if we choose to live alone in a cave with only rocks for friends, we are still picking up the world around us and our thoughts with our senses. But most of us live in cities with technology where our sense organs are constantly being overloaded.

To me, the practice of Ashtanga Yoga is all about moving energy. An energetic flossing. Gathering the energy, getting it to move, cleaning it out, and ideally – redirecting it to the heart. We are lucky when it is that simple. We walk through the door, lay down our mats, and boom! We can feel that we are already there. Everything feels like it has clicked into place and we truly experience feelings of contentment and bliss without really trying that hard. We feel capable and generous as we finish up and go about our days.
Not feeling rejuvenated and like you want to give the world a puppy post-practice or at any other point during your day? That happens too. We all might go through that sometimes. It can be really hard to get through. And maybe it will be like that forever. That could be.

But there are things that we can do to help make our world a little brighter or maybe bring us fully back into the light. It can be as easy as the daily flossing, although sometimes a bit more “dental work” or professional help is in order.

Are you feeling stuck, lethargic, stiff, pain, anger, like nothing is going right, joints popping, burping, like you really need to talk a lot, over posting on social media, overspending… those are just a few ways this might manifest…Or have you recently moved, left a relationship, lost a loved one?

Depending on your situation, you might need to move energy out, in, around, or a combination of any of those. Only you can know. And it might take time.

Little things you can do to help get the energy moving:
1. Curate your sensory experience. Surround yourself with things that are pleasant to your sight, touch, smell, taste and hearing.
2. As you practice, visualize air flowing through your body without restriction. Like flossing but for your insides
3. Other ideas: journal, drink more water, go for walks or runs, therapy, bodywork, limpias, oil pulling, take a shower, get in nature, smudging your space

These are just a few ideas to get your started.

Remember that you aren’t just removing the icky, you want to replace it with light.

And anyway at the end of the day, you can always just “concentrate on the everlasting light that is always inside your heart”. Maybe that is all you need 🙂
